One of my biggest regrets as a dog owner is not being able to do more for my furry friend before he passed away.

In August 2020, a Golden Retriever named Augie from Tennessee reached an incredible milestone — her 20th birthday.
This rare achievement was a cause for celebration, and her family marked the occasion with a joyful party surrounded by her closest furry siblings. Their mom even baked a special carrot cake just for the dogs, and it was a hit with everyone!
Augie currently holds the prestigious title of the oldest Golden Retriever in the history of her breed, and her family made sure the world knew about her incredible achievement.
While very few Golden Retrievers live to see their 18th or 19th birthdays, Augie defied the odds by reaching an extraordinary 20 years of age.

Despite facing some kidney issues in her senior years and not being as playful or mobile as she once was, Augie remained relatively healthy.
Her family fondly shared that she still enjoyed gentle walks around the yard and would occasionally join in on playtime with her furry siblings. Her spirit and love for life shone through, even in her golden years.

Despite Augie enjoying a happy and peaceful life in her senior years, her journey wasn’t always so easy.
As a rescue dog, Augie faced significant challenges in finding her forever home. She was turned down by two families before finally meeting Steve and Jennifer Hetterscheidt, who welcomed her with open arms.
In their care, Augie found the love, security, and companionship she had always deserved. She spent the rest of her life surrounded by her devoted owners and her new furry siblings, proving that even the roughest beginnings can lead to the happiest endings.
Augie quickly settled into her new home and wasted no time showing her family just how much she loved and appreciated them.
She spent countless joyful hours playing games like fetch and bonding with her furry siblings. Her family also took her on many unforgettable road trips, where she happily soaked in new sights, smells, and experiences. Each adventure became a cherished memory, reflecting the deep bond they all shared.

As time went on, Augie’s health began to decline, and just shy of her 21st birthday, she could no longer keep going.
On March 31st, 2021, Augie peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, Jennifer shared, “It is with profound sadness that I tell you Miss Augie passed away.”
Though her family was heartbroken, they found comfort in knowing Augie had lived a long, love-filled life surrounded by those who cherished her deeply.
In her final moments, Augie, in her own gentle way, let Jennifer know that her little body was simply too tired to go on. She reassured her family that it was okay to let her go.
Waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge was Sherman, who had passed away just a few months earlier in January. He greeted her with his signature full-body wiggles, a wagging tail, and loving face licks—just as he had always done on Earth.
Despite the hardships of her final days, Augie had lived an exceptionally long and happy life, surrounded by a family who loved her deeply. Together, they created countless cherished memories that will live on forever.
Augie’s story is a beautiful reminder of the incredible difference love, care, and dedication can make in our pets’ lives—not just adding years to their time with us, but filling those years with warmth, joy, and unforgettable moments.
