The transition from a loving home to the chaotic environment of a shelter can be a deeply traumatic experience for abandoned dogs.
Picture the fear and confusion of a once-adored pet, suddenly surrounded by unfamiliar sounds, separated from their favorite person, and overwhelmed by the uncertainty of their new reality.
Amid all the chaos, shelter workers and volunteers are the sole source of comfort for these frightened dogs.
Some dogs, like a Pittie mix named Andy Cohen, rely on every bit of reassurance the shelter can offer.
Meet Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen, a well-known American radio and TV personality, isn’t the only one with that name.
A Pittie mix named Andy Cohen was brought to the Tift County Animal Shelter in Tifton, Georgia, after his owner could no longer care for him.
In early November 2023, Andy Cohen and three other dogs were surrendered to the shelter. Leah Robinson, the rescue coordinator for the Tift County Animal Shelter, shared with Newsweek that the owner explained his decision, citing his return to work as a truck driver as the reason he couldn’t keep the dogs.
“They were heartbroken when they arrived, all huddled together and scared. Andy Cohen was shy, crying, and feeling abandoned,” Robinson revealed.
To inspire more people to adopt or foster shelter dogs, especially during the holiday season, the Tift County Animal Shelter shared a heartfelt video featuring Andy Cohen.
Clearly frightened and sorrowful, the sweet Pittie mix clung tightly to a staff member’s leg, unwilling to let go. All he wanted was someone to comfort him and show him love.
In the now-viral video, Andy is seen with his sad, expressive face as he hugs the employee’s leg, finding solace while she gently strokes him. The touching moment resonated with viewers, showcasing the deep need for compassion and care for shelter animals.
A Thanksgiving Joy
Due to the constant fear and stress Andy Cohen experienced at the shelter, the management made the decision to transfer him to their sister shelter, Waldo’s Rescue Pen, in New York City.
“We wanted him to have a fresh start with a family that loves him,” shared Leah Robinson.
Fortunately, everything went exactly as they had hoped. Andy’s journey for a brighter future was finally underway.

When Waldo’s Rescue Pen shared Andy Cohen’s video, it touched the hearts of many, leaving them saddened by his difficult journey.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for this sweet boy to find his perfect home—just in time for Thanksgiving.
It’s safe to say that Andy Cohen, now lovingly called Buddy, had plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
“He is now named Buddy and living his best life with his family in New York. We are so happy for Buddy and his family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” the shelter shared in the video announcing the heartwarming news.
It looks like Buddy has already settled into his new home and is visibly much happier. Even better, he now has a furry friend to share his life with—how wonderful!
To the incredible family who adopted him: thank you for giving Buddy the love and security he deserves. Please, never let him go.
