Adri and her partner were driving through a remote area on their way back to their home in Georgia when they spotted a Beagle crossing the road. Concerned for the dog’s safety, they quickly stopped the car and rushed to assist her.
As soon as they picked her up, their hearts sank. The sweet Beagle looked terrified and unbearably sad. Adri gently stroked the little dog, whispering comforting words to let her know she was safe. Without hesitation, the couple decided to take her home.
Trying To Win Mocha’s Heart

They held onto hope that someone was searching for the sweet pup, but she had no collar or microchip. The couple reached out to local shelters and shared photos of her online, yet no one came forward to claim her.
The little dog was paralyzed by fear, unable to meet their gaze, her tail perpetually tucked between her legs. Adri’s heart broke every time she saw Mocha—now named by the couple—hiding her face under the tiny cabinets in their home.
“It was pretty clear to us from the start that she wasn’t used to being inside a house,” Adri shared with The Dodo. “[She] wasn’t really used to human interaction either.”

Adri and her partner decided to name the sweet pup Mocha and began working patiently to help her feel safe. They hand-fed her, taking small steps to earn her trust.
Worried that Mocha might have left her puppies behind, they returned to the spot where they first found her and searched the area thoroughly. Unfortunately, there were no puppies to be found.
The realization hit hard—Mocha had likely been abandoned by her owners after giving birth. The thought left Adri and her partner heartbroken, but they were determined to give her the love and care she deserved.
Introducing Her To The Other Rescue Dogs

Adri and her partner introduced Mocha to their other rescue dogs, and that’s when everything began to change. The other pups embraced her warmly, showing her how to be a dog again. They played together in the yard, helping Mocha feel like part of the pack.
Since Mocha was still too scared to let Adri come close, Adri found a creative way to connect with her—through the glass patio door. She would place her hand on the glass and softly call Mocha. At first, Mocha hesitated, but seeing the other rescue dogs eagerly run to Adri at the door encouraged her to join in.
This interaction through the glass helped Mocha feel a bit safer. But her fear lingered—each time Adri opened the door, Mocha would quickly retreat. Patient and determined, Adri slowly began reaching her hand outside, letting Mocha approach on her own terms. Little by little, Mocha grew brave enough to cover Adri’s hand with sweet, tentative kisses.
Mocha Finally Feels Safe

After four weeks of patience and gentle encouragement, something incredible happened. Mocha cautiously approached Adri and sat beside her for the first time. It was a small yet monumental moment, and Adri was over the moon with joy. This simple act of trust marked a huge step forward in their journey together.
“The first time she sat next to me, she wasn’t looking for an escape route,” Adri shared. “I didn’t have any treats to offer her. I could see her eyes darting a little, but she just sat there with me.”
That moment marked a turning point. Adri and her partner continued showering Mocha with love, patience, and kindness. Gradually, Mocha’s fears melted away, replaced by trust and affection. Thanks to their unwavering dedication, Mocha blossomed into a confident and happy pup, knowing she was finally safe and loved.

And since then, we’ve made huge progress,” Adri said. “She’ll climb onto my lap, let me pet her all over, and everything. Seeing that transformation makes every bit of the effort worth it.”
Initially, Adri and her partner planned to find Mocha a loving forever home. But over time, it became clear—Mocha was already home. Their Georgia home was where she truly belonged.
We’re overjoyed that Mocha found the perfect family, one that gives her all the love and care she deserves. After all her hardships, this sweet pup finally has the happy home she always dreamed of.
