That day, a courageous woman stepped in, and thanks to her, Petey the stray got a second chance he might not have had otherwise.
This tiny pup was found hiding under a tree in Garden Grove, California, too scared to let anyone get close.
A passing stranger spotted him and, careful not to frighten him further, shared Petey’s photo on social media. That simple act set the stage for a compassionate woman to step in and take life-saving action!
“I Knew He Wouldn’t Make It Through The Night”

Suzette Hall, a seasoned rescuer with Logan’s Legacy from Irvine, California, saw Petey’s photo and knew she had to act quickly.
Her concern for the tiny pup grew even more when a local informed her that the area where Petey was hiding was frequented by coyotes—making it clear he wouldn’t stand a chance on his own.

“Poor baby thought he was safe there, but with the coyotes around, he wasn’t. I knew he wouldn’t make it through the night,” Suzette shared on her Facebook page.
Anxious And Timid, Petey Needed Time To Calm Down
When Hall arrived at the scene, she saw Petey sitting in the exact same spot, as if he were waiting for his family while trying to stay safe.
However, the rescue didn’t go as smoothly as she hoped—Petey was too anxious and terrified to let anyone get near him. Determined to help, Hall decided to try a different approach!
Hall set up two humane traps filled with dog food on opposite sides of the field where Petey was hiding. She then stepped back, giving him enough space to feel secure and find his way to the food.
It took a while, but eventually, Petey entered one of the traps—and at last, he was safe!
“He was starving, circling the trap,” Suzette wrote. “He stretched his tiny legs as far as he could, too scared to go all the way to the back. He stretched again… and then he got brave. He found the courage.”
Transforming Into The Sweetest Lovebug

It took some time, but Petey eventually relaxed and allowed Hall to pet him. The moment he felt the gentle touch of a human, he transformed into the sweetest little lovebug!
Since it was late in the evening, Hall decided to spend the night in her car with Petey, planning to take him to the vet first thing in the morning.

Hall even shared Petey’s photo with Garden Grove Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets in hopes of finding his family, but no one came forward.
Petey was then placed in foster care, where he underwent an incredible transformation into the sweetest little pup! While waiting for his forever home, he thrived with his foster family, relishing every moment alongside his new doggy siblings.
In the end, all it took to make Petey happy was one timely decision and a little bit of love!
