Nova is a remarkable dog. Despite a difficult beginning, she longed for a loving home and a normal life. But her hopes were shattered when her owner heartlessly abandoned her on the roadside, leaving her in a kennel with a “free” sign attached.
The cruelty of such an act is heartbreaking, and to make things even worse, it happened on a dangerously busy highway.
Fortunately for Nova, a kind-hearted passerby noticed her and refused to look the other way. Determined to help, they shared her story online, hoping that a rescue organization would step in and give her the second chance she deserved.

To everyone’s surprise, Madison Nygard, a dedicated volunteer with Pawfect Match Rescue in North Carolina, quickly responded to the call for help.
In an interview with People, she recalled, “I was on my way. I had seen it a couple of minutes after it was posted. I got to Nova before the post hit the hour mark.”
When she arrived, she was heartbroken to see the kennel with the cruel “free” sign attached. She couldn’t help but wonder—who could abandon such a trusting, innocent dog in such a heartless way?

After speaking briefly with animal control officers at the scene, Madison Nygard made a life-changing decision—she was going to rescue Nova herself.
She immediately took Nova to a veterinary clinic in North Carolina for a thorough checkup and treatment, ensuring she received the care she might need.
Nygard later shared, “I knew that at least if I brought her into the house, she would have food in her belly, and I could physically monitor her.”
Now in Nygard’s foster care, Nova could finally relax and feel safe. For the first time in a while, she didn’t have to worry about survival.
And it didn’t take long for her to show just how grateful she was—embracing every moment of kindness and care with love and affection.

Nova quickly bonded with everyone in the house, bringing joy to those around her. Seeing her thrive after such a rough start was heartwarming for Nygard, who was thrilled to witness her progress.
Though Nova loved her foster home, Nygard knew she needed to find her a forever family. She connected with a few potential adopters, but the process would take some time.
