During one of her routine searches in Fort Worth, Texas, Judy Obregon, founder of TAO Animal Rescue, spotted a small doghouse by the roadside.
Concerned, she hurried over to check. As she approached, the doghouse began to move.
Obregon’s heart sank when a tiny puppy’s head peeked out, revealing the most soulful eyes. The pup was trembling from the cold and rain, her fragile body covered in mange.
Gently, Obregon comforted her, promising that better days were ahead. She wrapped the puppy in a warm blanket and carried her to the car.
Safe at last, the puppy gazed out the window, her eyes finally calm.

“And I think at that moment, she knew deep down—that was it. She knew she was safe with someone who would truly care for her,” Obregon told The Dodo.
Relief washed over Obregon. She was certain the little pup wouldn’t have survived another cold night alone.

Obregon took the pup to the vet, where she was diagnosed with mange and skin infections. The treatment plan included antibiotics and soothing medicated baths.
Wanting to ensure her recovery, Obregon brought the little pup home as an emergency foster and named her Jila, inspired by her soulful eyes.
With nourishing meals, gentle care, and plenty of love, Jila slowly began to heal. She found comfort in her new surroundings and, for the first time in a while, slept peacefully.
Jila quickly stole her foster mom’s heart. Despite all she had endured, she remained the sweetest little pup, savoring every moment of affection and warmth.
Obregon couldn’t shake the feeling that Jila had lived her life as an outside dog, never knowing the love and care she so deeply deserved.

Jila soon moved to another foster home, where her new foster mom, Paige, showered her with love and provided the care she needed to heal.
Grateful for the kindness, Jila often licked Paige’s hands and snuggled close, her gentle way of saying thank you.
After some time, Jila transitioned to the care of another foster mom, Emily, continuing her journey to recovery. The sweet pup thrived in her new home, soaking up affection and cuddles. Her once weary face now glowed with happiness.

At the time, a wonderful Texas family was looking for a pup for their eight-year-old son. As soon as they saw Jila, she captivated them and they knew that their search was over.
The moment Jila saw her forever mom, she ran into her arms and gave her a kiss. The gentle puppy was excited to move into her forever home. She fit in with her family right away.

They hugged Jila tightly, covering her in kisses, and the joyful pup eagerly returned the affection. Surrounded by love, Jila felt truly adored, her happiness shining through every wag of her tail.
“When I look at her, the word that comes to mind is joy,” Jila’s forever mom told The Dodo. “Sometimes, I wonder if she even remembers being left on the side of the road. She’s just so overwhelmingly happy, her little tail wagging nonstop.”
We couldn’t be happier for Jila. She finally found the love and security she had always deserved.
