A Dog Is Rescued From Euthanization And Can’t Hold Back His Happiness

Rescuing dogs is a mix of heartbreak and relief—each moment is 50% sadness and 50% hope. Seeing abandoned or stray animals for the first time is devastating; the sheer number of dogs in need is overwhelming, and all you want to do is save them all.

The other half is pure relief—knowing that a rescued puppy is finally safe and has a bright future with a loving family.

These are the moments every pet deserves, and in this article, we’ll share a heartwarming rescue story about a dog saved from euthanasia, given a second chance by a compassionate man.

These days, it’s unfortunately common for owners to surrender their pets for euthanasia when medical costs become too overwhelming.

Gregory, a Beagle, was no exception. He was on the brink of being put down—until a kindhearted man named Joe Kirk stepped in to save him.

Joe rescued Gregory just two days before he was scheduled to be euthanized—a life-saving intervention with the best possible outcome. He and his wife, Schenley, run Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit organization in Findlay, Ohio, dedicated to helping neglected animals find new homes and providing foster care for older or unadoptable dogs.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Schenley shared:

“Gregory is one thankful and appreciative Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE! He is Heartworm Positive and will be going through treatment, but he knows he is in good hands! We will get him healthy, give him all the love he deserves, and ensure he has a wonderful future!”

Once Gregory was safe in the care of the Kirks, they took him to a veterinarian for treatment of his heartworm disease.

Not long after his recovery, he was added to the adoption list—and he didn’t have to wait long. A loving family soon came forward, ready to give him a forever home. Before long, Gregory had the happy ending he deserved.

Gregory is now happily settled with his new family, enjoying life alongside his Beagle sibling. His journey from the brink of euthanasia to a loving forever home is a true testament to the power of rescue and second chances.

Schenley shared a heartfelt message about their mission:

*”We are often asked how many dogs we have saved. The answer that always comes to mind is, we have saved one more. One more dog is safe and will receive the love and respect they so deserve.

One more dog will be properly fed and given the veterinary care they need. One more dog will find a loving forever home. There is no better feeling and nothing in life more fulfilling.”*

If there’s one lesson to take from this story, it’s that a little kindness can make a world of difference for dogs in need—and there’s always more we can do to help.
