Unfortunately, countless dogs never get the chance to experience the warmth of a loving home. Every day, dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages are abandoned on the streets, forced to survive on their own.
It’s heartbreaking to think about the challenges some dogs face, but thankfully, for every act of neglect, there are countless individuals doing incredible things to make a difference.
Organizations like the Lewis and Clark Humane Society are beacons of hope, giving countless dogs a second chance at life.
Based in Helena, Montana, this open-admission humane society cares for over 1,500 animals each year. With an impressive 98% adoption rate, they commit to keeping every dog for as long as it takes to find their forever family.
While some dogs are adopted quickly, others spend much longer at the shelter, which becomes a temporary haven. It’s far better than life on the streets, but nothing compares to the love and security of a forever home.
Bubba Jr. was one of those long-term residents, calling the shelter home for a challenging 93 days.

Bubba Jr. is a handsome and affectionate dog, but being a Pitbull made his journey to adoption much harder.
In one of their heartfelt posts, the shelter shared, “People keep throwing Pitbulls around. Pitbull? Pittie? House Hippo? Slobber Monster? LCHS doesn’t care. They see me for what I am. A giant meathead loveable dog!”
Unfortunately, negative stereotypes surrounding Pitbulls create significant challenges for their adoption. These misconceptions, combined with the fact that many rentals are not pet-friendly—especially when it comes to Pitbulls—make it even harder for dogs like Bubba Jr. to find a home.
This limited pool of potential adopters leaves loving dogs like Bubba Jr. waiting far too long for a family to call their own.
At the heart of every dog like Bubba Jr. is a loving soul, quietly waiting for the day their happiness arrives—whether at a front door or a kennel.
Bubba Jr. not only has an adorable name, but he also has a personality full of warmth and affection. The shelter described him perfectly:
“If we handed out trophies to each of our dogs, Bubba J’s trophy plaque would read: ‘Most Likely to Kiss.’ He loves to run up and give his human teammates kisses and cuddles. He’s all about his human teammates, always eager to join them for a walk or a movie on the couch. When he’s not practicing his kisses, Bubba can be found working hard on his cuddling technique or scarfing down his kibble. He is truly a one-dog team, he doesn’t need any dogs (or any cats, for that matter) to steal his thunder.”
While Bubba adored everyone at the shelter, there was one volunteer who seemed to have a special bond with him. That connection only deepened over time. After 93 long days in the shelter, this volunteer made a heartwarming decision to adopt Bubba Jr., finally ending his search for a forever home. It was a day of joy for the entire shelter, marking the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in Bubba’s life.

The shelter’s Facebook post shared the heartwarming news, but this time, they let Bubba Jr. have a voice in the story:
“Hey everyone, it’s Bubba Jr.! I just wanted to let you know that I finally found my forever home. No more waiting for kisses or cuddles—I’ve got them all now, anytime I want! My new family loves me to the moon and back, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you to the amazing team at LCHS for never giving up on me, and to all the kind folks who cheered me on. I might not have been the fastest to find my family, but I sure was worth the wait. I’ll be forever grateful for all the love, and I promise to give it right back!”
The post received an outpouring of joy from followers, celebrating the beautiful bond between Bubba and his new family. It was a reminder that every dog deserves a chance to feel loved.

Bubba’s diary entry touched everyone deeply, capturing the joy and relief of his new beginning:
“Dear Diary,
Today was the day I’ve been dreaming of! I’m no longer just Bubba Jr. at the shelter—I’m Bubba, the happiest dog in the world with a real home and a dad who loves me more than I ever imagined. I’ve got my own bed, snuggles whenever I want, and more toys than I can count. But the best part? I’ve got someone to love me wholeheartedly, and I get to love him right back. My tail hasn’t stopped wagging all day, and I know this is only the beginning of the best chapter ever. I’m so grateful to everyone at LCHS for giving me a second chance. I’m ready for all the adventures with my new dad!”
The post went viral, with countless people celebrating Bubba’s newfound happiness. After months of waiting, he finally had a place where he truly belonged—a warm home, endless affection, and a dad to call his own.
This volunteer’s selfless decision to adopt Bubba Jr. reminded everyone of the importance of giving shelter dogs a chance—a chance for love, safety, and a forever home.
Bubba’s next diary entry brought even more smiles, showing just how quickly he had settled into his new life:
“Dear Diary,
It’s day 5 in my new home and boy are things different… I love my new life in this place called ‘home.’ Every day I wake up with my Favorite Volunteer (now my Favorite Dad!), and every day is the best day ever! There’s so much to explore, so many snuggles to enjoy, and I get to share it all with someone who loves me. I’m learning new things, like what a squeaky toy is (so fun!) and how to nap in the sunbeam. I’ve found my place here, and I know I’m home for good.”
Bubba’s words captured the pure joy of a dog who had finally found the love he had longed for. The journey from shelter life to a warm, caring home is what every dog deserves, and Bubba’s story was a beautiful reminder of the power of compassion.

If you’re planning to get a dog, please visit your local shelter, and maybe you can also become someone’s Favorite Volunteer and brighten their life.
There are so many dogs waiting to find someone who will love them forever, but sadly, many of them don’t have the opportunity to stay at the shelter until they find a home.
