One senior dog in Los Angeles, California, experienced this firsthand when potential adopters overlooked him, assuming he was “damaged goods.”

A Facebook post by Philozoia, a Los Angeles-based animal welfare organization, revealed that a senior dog named Eeyore was rescued from a euthanasia shelter before arriving at their facility. They had only praise for him.
“He is crate and house trained, kid-friendly, and would make a great family dog. Eeyore loves attention and naps, and he also has a playful side. He loves toys and takes his stuffed animal with him everywhere,” they shared.
Despite their hopes that Eeyore would quickly find his forever home, reality proved otherwise. They struggled to secure even a foster home for him, let alone a permanent one.

One day, a young woman named Harshey came across Eeyore’s story and was so deeply moved that she couldn’t turn away—she decided to become his foster mom. From her home, his journey would soon touch countless hearts.
After some time together, Harshey felt compelled to share a video on her TikTok profile, highlighting Eeyore’s heartbreaking fate.
“A senior dog with severe scarring and asthma is seen as damaged goods by most adopters. But Eeyore has been nothing but brave and kind since I picked him up tonight,” part of the caption reads.
The video captures Eeyore’s poor condition, showing deep scars behind his ears and on his back. Harshey later revealed that she wouldn’t have suspected abuse—until he flinched at her touch.

At that moment, it became clear that Eeyore wasn’t just overlooked because of his age—he was also a victim of something far worse.
“I can’t help but fear that no one will ever come for him,” Harshey says at the end.

Although the video is heartbreaking, it’s uplifting to see how Eeyore’s story touched so many hearts. No one remained indifferent, as the video sparked an outpouring of reactions.

One viewer even asked Harshey why she doesn’t adopt him, but she had a ready answer: “Keeping him means more dogs that continue to not have a foster and are then at risk for euthanasia.”
With it, Harshey wanted to say that this is not the right solution but that people should open their hearts to dogs like this instead. That way, not only Eeyore, but also many other dogs who are in the shackles of similar stereotypes will find their happiness more easily.
