A pup named Mrs. Greg was found wandering the streets alone when an animal control officer spotted her and quickly brought her to a local shelter.
She was in such poor condition that the shelter couldn’t provide the care she desperately needed. Fortunately, she was soon transferred to Austin Pets Alive!—a rescue equipped to give her a real chance at survival.
“Mrs. Greg was in poor condition. She tested positive for parvovirus and had severe sarcoptic mange,” Luis Sanchez, director of public relations and communications at Austin Pets Alive!, told The Dodo.

Parvovirus is often a grim diagnosis for dogs, but Mrs. Greg refused to be just another statistic. Against the odds, she fought to survive.
However, since her recovery from mange took longer than expected, Mrs. Greg’s fur struggled to grow back.

Even though Winnie continued to face health challenges, she never lost hope.
“I know she fought through parvo and mange in the shelter, and even after being adopted, it took time for her to fully recover. She kept getting sick and having tummy issues, but she was a trooper—a happy puppy through it all,” Olivia told The Dodo.
Olivia wasn’t sure if Winnie’s fur would ever grow back or if she would always look the same—but it didn’t matter. She loved her brave girl unconditionally.
But Winnie had a surprise in store for everyone. Against all odds, she grew the most beautiful fur coat, proving that resilience and love can work wonders!
