Lost Dog Living By The Road For 13 Months Reunites With Her Owner

When Cindy Nash, founder of Nicholas’ Pet Haven, an animal shelter in Texas, received a call about a puppy in distress, she was eager to step in and help.

The woman who reached out to Cindy lived near a major road, right across from a cemetery. She explained that a small dog had been living by the roadside for nearly a year.

Recently, the pup had grown bolder, and the woman worried it might attempt to cross the busy road, putting itself in grave danger. Desperate to keep the little dog safe, she asked Cindy if she could come and rescue it.

That same day, a rescue group was already out searching for the little pup.

While setting up humane traps, they encountered Dr. Harshivinderjit S. Bains, who had been quietly watching over the dog, named Truvy, from a distance.

He told me he truly loves that dog and wanted to give her a home. Truvy had been living inside his clinic while it was under construction and managed to stay there throughout the bitter cold of last winter. For a year, he provided her with bedding, food, and water, but despite his care, he was never able to get close enough to touch her,” Cindy explained.

Later that day, when Cindy returned to check on the traps, she was met with an unexpected sight—Truvy was calmly sitting inside one of them, patiently waiting to be rescued.

Cindy decided to bring Truvy home with her.

Unsure of how Truvy might react, Cindy carefully placed the crate on the floor and gently opened the door. To her surprise, as soon as the door swung open, Truvy bolted out—straight into Cindy’s lap.

Cindy was stunned!

She then gave Truvy a much-needed bath, removing the countless sticker burrs tangled in her fur. Truvy didn’t resist; instead, she seemed to enjoy every moment, as if she knew she was finally safe.

It was clear how relieved and happy Truvy was to be rescued, and the moment was so heartwarming it melted my heart.

The next day, Cindy took Truvy to the vet for a thorough checkup. During the examination, the vet made an unexpected discovery—Truvy was microchipped.

Reunion

Cindy immediately contacted the family, and they were overjoyed to hear that Truvy had been found. They explained that when they moved to Texas a year ago, they hadn’t realized just how small Truvy was.

On her first day in their new yard, Truvy managed to squeeze through the narrow bars of their iron fence and disappeared into the world beyond.

“We immediately canvassed the neighborhood, searching on foot and by car. For months, I drove around endlessly looking for her. I also emailed every vet clinic, shelter, and rescue group within a 60-mile radius, hoping someone might have found her,” said Amy Logan, Truvy’s mom.

Brave little Truvy had been missing for nearly 13 months before fate led her to her savior, Cindy.

Thankfully, Amy had kept Truvy’s microchip information up to date, holding onto hope that one day they’d be reunited—and it paid off!

The family was overwhelmed with joy upon hearing that, after all this time surviving on the cold streets, Truvy was not only alive but safe and well.

The very next day, Cindy brought Truvy to Amy, reuniting them at last.

“It took her a moment to realize it was her mom,” Cindy shared. “But by the time they got her home, Truvy was settling in, as if she knew she was finally safe and sound. She’s truly one lucky little girl.”

Final Word

Dr. Bains felt a tinge of sadness knowing he hadn’t been able to give Truvy a warm home, but his heart swelled with joy upon hearing that she was finally back where she belonged—with her family.

Amy struggled to find the words to express her gratitude to Dr. Bains for his kindness and dedication in keeping her little pup safe through such harsh and uncertain conditions.

Let Truvy’s story serve as a reminder: never give up hope, and always make sure your furry friend is microchipped—it could make all the difference.
