When Ne La and Adrian first found Keanu, he was barely hanging on. He had reached the point of no return, with almost no chance of survival.
Lying motionless on the forest floor, Keanu showed no reaction to his rescuers. He lacked the strength to stand or even acknowledge their presence.

The pair quickly reached out to 1 Dog At A Time Rescue, who wasted no time in getting Keanu to their trusted vet, Denisa.
“It took several hours for him to start responding. He could barely lift his head at first,” said Jayne, the rescue’s co-founder, in an interview with We Love Animals.
During the drive to the vet, Keanu lay quietly in the car, placing his last bit of trust in humanity. Exhausted and drained, he had no other choice.

At the clinic, Keanu was immediately put on a drip. Hours passed before he showed his first sign of life—slowly opening his eyes and gently licking his rescuer’s hand, his own quiet way of saying, “Thank you!”

That gentle, kind glance instantly captured the hearts of everyone at the rescue.
“Everybody who met him just fell in love. He was so gentle. Very, very gentle,” Jayne shared.
For the first week, Keanu barely moved. His food and water bowl sat beside him as he slowly regained strength. Then, after a few days, the first signs of progress finally appeared!
Keanu finally found the strength to stand on his paws and take a few shaky steps—a truly heartwarming moment. Once he made it outside, his recovery took a remarkable turn.

Within weeks, Keanu made remarkable progress. He began walking longer distances outside and even made new friends. With his furry companion, Elsa, he rediscovered the joy of play and what it meant to just be a dog again.
Still, his favorite pastime remains simple—lying under a tree and soaking in the moment.
“He’s such a gentle soul and gets along beautifully with all our dogs. He truly marches to his own beat, happiest when stretched out under a tree, just being,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

Keanu’s spirit had fully returned. The happiness and gratitude in his eyes spoke volumes—he knew he’d been given a second chance. Now, he was finally ready to give back all the love that had carried him through his recovery.
“He’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime dogs. Truly special,” Jayne said with heartfelt admiration.
Before long, Keanu found the loving home he deserved—a family ready to embrace him completely.
Now, surrounded by love, he finally gets to show his incredible character and enjoy endless days of adventure, free from worry. After everything he’s endured, he’s more than earned this happy ending.
