While strolling through a remote area of Hudson, Wisconsin, a Good Samaritan admired the blanket of fallen leaves covering the ground, expecting nothing more than an ordinary day.
However, by the corner of their eye, they spotted a strange brown and black ball among the leaves.
Upon further inspection, they realized that it was actually a pup.

The pup, later named Brutus, lay curled up atop the leaves, waiting desperately for someone to find him and lend a helping hand.
The Good Samaritan quickly alerted Hudson Animal Control, and a team of rescuers promptly rushed to the scene.

No one could say for sure how long the pup had been out there, but one thing was clear—they needed to get him out of the cold and warm him up.
With Brutus severely malnourished, providing him with a nourishing meal was also a top priority.
“Brutus was a skeletal figure, curling up in leaves for warmth. His tight collar suggested a heartbreaking possibility—he may have been abandoned in this condition,” Ruff Start Rescue shared on Facebook.
Brutus wasn’t just severely underweight; he was also partially blind and beginning to lose hope.
Thankfully, the dedicated rescue team stepped in just in time, showing Brutus that life could be worth living with the right people by his side.
They shared his story online, hoping someone would come forward to give him a home.
But before long, a staff member fell completely in love with him and offered to foster him. Ruff Start Rescue agreed to cover all of his medical expenses, ensuring he could start his new life with his loving foster family as soon as possible.

At The Fosters
Brutus’s new foster family made sure he had everything a pup could need, carefully monitoring his nutrition to help him regain a healthy weight.
He cherished every moment with his foster siblings, playing and bonding with them. But when he needed to rest, this sweet pup could always be found curled up on his beloved heating pad.
“He absolutely loves his canine foster siblings, often following them everywhere. And his affectionate doggy kisses are simply the best,” Ruff Start Rescue shared.

Thanks to the compassionate team at Ruff Start Rescue in Minnesota and his loving foster family, Brutus is finally experiencing the warmth and comfort he always deserved. No longer shivering in a pile of leaves, he now lounges on a cozy couch, eagerly awaiting the holidays.
While he still has some recovering to do before reaching full health, Brutus is happier than ever.
“Brutus is a true cuddle bug, convinced that laps were made just for him!” Ruff Start Rescue shared in a Facebook update.
As soon as the holiday season ended, the rescue pulled out all the stops to find Brutus a forever home—from online campaigns to appearances on local news.
This sweet boy captured the hearts of many, but finding the perfect family still proved to be a challenge.

A devoted dog dad knew Brutus was the perfect addition to his family and decided to adopt him.
From the moment they met, the bond was instant—they became inseparable. Brutus quickly settled into his new home, effortlessly connecting with every member of his loving family.

His new family gave him the love and security he needed to leave his past behind and fully embrace his new life. Now, his fur shines, his belly is always full, and he knows nothing but comfort and care.
Brutus can hardly believe his luck—his days are now filled with fun, adventures, and endless love. And everyone who followed his journey couldn’t be happier for him!
