Sweet 15 Year Old Dog Was Abandoned At A Cat Rescue Before Someone Stepped In To Save Her

One of the most common reasons senior dogs are abandoned is when their owners move to a new home that doesn’t allow pets.

However, that doesn’t change the heartbreaking reality that some people don’t even try to find their senior dogs a new home. Instead, they abandon them on the streets or surrender them to shelters, leaving others to deal with the responsibility. It’s cruel, and no dog deserves that.

In this story, we’ll share the journey of a senior dog who was left behind by his owners and, for some reason, abandoned at a cat rescue in Ohio.

It seemed like an ordinary day for Kay Banks as she went about her work at Tabby Tails Cat Rescue—until she noticed something unusual outside.

Stepping outside for a closer look, she spotted a dog wandering around the rescue. At first, she assumed it belonged to a neighbor.

But after checking again, it became clear that the dog had been abandoned. Without hesitation, Kay brought her inside to safety.

Noticing the gray hairs on her coat, Banks quickly realized the dog was a senior. She named her Honey and, after some checking, determined that she was at least 15 years old—and she even had a microchip.

Hoping to reunite her with her family, Banks contacted Honey’s previous owners. But to her dismay, they refused to take her back. With nowhere else to go, Honey was now in Banks’ care, and she was determined to give the senior dog the love she deserved.

Banks was determined to find Honey a loving home, but it wasn’t easy. Her rescue mainly focused on cats, and adopting out a senior dog was always a challenge.

One option was to take Honey to a dog-specific shelter, but there was a significant risk—if they struggled to find her a home, she could be euthanized. That was not an outcome Banks was willing to accept.

For now, she focused on giving Honey the best care possible. The senior dog suffered from arthritis, so Banks arranged for laser therapy treatments. The therapy worked wonders, easing Honey’s pain and making it easier for her to move around.

Honey had a few other health concerns—her nails were overgrown, and she was infested with ticks and fleas—but a visit to the veterinarian quickly took care of those issues.

As time passed, Honey adjusted well to life with Banks. She grew comfortable in her new surroundings and adored being by her side.

While Banks remained hopeful that someone would step forward to adopt Honey despite her age and health challenges, she was more than happy to care for her until that day came.
